My Picks for Must-Have Sheet Pan Meal Cooking Tools

I like to keep my cooking supply list pretty simple. But there are a few things that are either essential or nice to have, and here’s my list:

Heavy-duty sheet pans — I mean, this IS a list of sheet pan dinner recipes, after all. I use both half-size and quarter-size sheet pans.

*Note: I have linked to aluminum pans, which I use daily even though they are almost the only things in my kitchen that are not dishwasher-safe. I would prefer stainless pans that can go into the dishwasher, but I have yet to find any that are highly-rated and warp-free. I usually use parchment paper sheets. When roasting at high temps, I coat the pan with oil that has a high smoke point.

Sheet pan lids — LOVE these for thawing frozen items – then the lids can just go right into the dishwasher. They’re also great for covering a sheet pan and the universal size fits my different brands of half-size sheet pans.

Flexible cutting boards — Having several boards makes meal prep easy, and a ‘grippy’ back is a plus!

Knives — A good variety of knives is great for prepping ingredients, plus sometimes you can ‘cheat’ and run them through the dishwasher. I know you’re not supposed to, and I would never do it with expensive knives, but sometimes a less expensive knife set serves all of the necessary purposes and makes life a little easier.

Meat thermometer – Many of these recipes recommend checking the temperature of the chicken to ensure a safe temperature when cooking.

Large mixing bowl — This is perfect with a silicone mixing spatula for tossing ingredients before placing on the sheet pan. My large bowls are older-style Tupperware and I’m not even sure they make those anymore. If I were buying bowls today, I would get this stacking stainless steel set with lids.

Silicone-tipped tongs — I use these tongs almost every single day, and I love them for moving food around on sheet pans or serving after the meal is cooked. They’re different than most other tongs because they open/close with a touch of the button on the side. That means you can operate them completely one-handed.

Food chopper — helps with chopping vegetables if you’re not great with a knife.

Give these recipes a try and see how they transform your winter suppers. Each dish offers a delightful mix of flavors that can make your kitchen a warm haven on a cold day. Experiment with a few of the ideas, and I hope you’ll discover your new favorite chicken sheet pan dinner that turns simple weeknight meals into a satisfying experience.

You’ve got this!
