An Interview With the Blogger Behind Filling the Jars

This is a fun post about me — Julie Hage — your friendly neighborhood blogger here at Filling the Jars. Jo and Leisa from joleisa.com have tagged me in a Blogger Interview. (Thank you, ladies! This was fun!)

Grab a beverage and read on to learn a little more about me and my “real” life.

When was the last time you cried?
Probably yesterday. Sappy Facebook videos get me every time.

If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself?
I hope so. Women need all the friends we can get! To tell the truth, we would more likely be internet friends than in-person friends. I’m super-skittish about making in-person friends.

Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Never. *rolleyes*

What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Whether or not they’re obsessed with their phone. If we’ve never met before and you can’t take your eyes off the screen for 5 seconds or end your gossip session, I’ll remain polite but distant. However, if you look me in the eye and smile, my day just got a whole lot better, and I’ll do everything I can to make yours better as well.

Scary movie or happy endings?
I like almost everything EXCEPT scary movies. Although to be honest, I can never sit for an entire movie at home, so I prefer television series marathons on Netflix or Amazon Prime. Watch 20-30 minutes, pause and do stuff, watch 20-30 minutes, repeat… all weekend if possible. 🙂

Favorite smells?
Vanilla, citrus, the air right after a good rain.

What’s the furthest you’ve ever been from home?
San Francisco (I live in Michigan)

Do you have any special talents?
Saying the wrong thing at the wrong time… every time. For everyone’s safety, I try to keep quiet most of the time. Blogging and writing books are good pursuits because I can edit my words before anyone “hears” them.

If you’re talking about stuff I can DO? Nope, I’m just a regular person!

Where were you born?
Michigan

What are your hobbies?
Reading. Working — don’t even laugh at that, I love blogging and writing books, so it rarely feels like work! And of course those Netflix marathons, which seem to happen all too rarely these days.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
Paleontologist, fashion designer, architect, author. I studied architecture and worked in the field for several years, and eventually I became an author — so I guess two out of four isn’t bad. 🙂

How many countries have you been to?
Two — USA & Canada. When you live in Michigan, they seem pretty much the same. I remember when I was visiting California and tried to pay for something with a Canadian quarter. The cashier was like, “We don’t take foreign currency.” And I was like, “That’s not foreign, it’s Canadian.” (I really did know Canada and USA are different countries, but the money that’s the same… is the same. KWIM?)

What was your favorite/worst subject in school?
Favorite — English. Worst — PE. It was the only “C” I ever got.

What is your favorite drink?
Non-alcoholic — sweet & creamy iced or hot coffee (although it’s more of an addiction).
Alcoholic — tie between Redd’s hard apple ale and Long Island iced tea.

Who are some of your favorite YouTubers?
Hahaha… whoever helps me fix whatever problem I googled. I don’t ever watch just for fun or follow a particular person. Never even thought of doing that.

Favorite memory from childhood?
Camping at beachfront sites on Lake Michigan every year… with two weeks in front of me and a huge stack of library books.

How would you describe your fashion sense?
Dazed and confused — which is probably why that fashion designer dream didn’t work out.

Tell us one of your bad habits!
Sugar, in every form.

Okay, there you have it! Thanks again, Jo and Leisa, for tagging me!

Wondering how I originally started blogging? Check out my very first post Filling the Jars: Family, Home, Money, Life — I can’t believe it’s been well over two years since I wrote that! My blog focus has been refined since that post, but I still try to work some of those topics into my current posts. And I Pin about all of them — follow me on Pinterest to see what I like and Pin.

And now… I get to tag someone else to do an interview post on their blog! 🙂
