August Declutter Calendar: Simple Daily Organizing To End Summer Strong {Free Printable}

The August declutter calendar is here, and it’s designed with one thing in mind: helping you quietly regain some control and begin to declutter your home without sweating through the rest of your summer. Each task is fairly low-effort, chosen specifically for the warm and sometimes chaotic days of August.

This is NOT a full-house deep-declutter overhaul. It’s just a little something every day. That said, I hope these small steps will give you some breathing room and make everyday life flow more smoothly.

Think of it as your low-pressure lead-in to fall routines. No marathon cleaning. No guilt if you skip a day. Just 10-minute wins, one at a time. And if you have a bit more time, you may also want to check out some of my other declutter tips for even more August decluttering inspiration.

Why This August Decluttering Calendar Works

August is that in-between month… the summer fun is still happening, but things are shifting, mixing with the beginning stirrings of ‘back to routine.’ You might notice it in your calendar and your energy levels.

August also tends to be sneaky with clutter. Summer gear sprawls. Routines fade. You’re definitely noticing signs it’s time to declutter. That’s why this is the ideal month to clear the surfaces, trim down the little messes, and create breathing room before school schedules, cooler weather, and seasonal decor start taking over.

You’re already juggling a lot, and we want to keep things simple. Following my August declutter month challenge of clutter-buster ideas can keep you moving forward without stress.

Because you’re building a routine of working in short, manageable sessions, the August declutter checklist becomes something you can stick with. You won’t have to wonder where to start, because there’s just one task each day. And by the end of the month, you’ll have tackled dozens of small problem spots.

How To Do the August Declutter Challenge

1. Print the free printable declutter calendar and keep it on your fridge or planner.

2. Each day, set a timer for 10 minutes and focus on the day’s task. Do what you can, and stop when the time is up.

3. Keep a donation box nearby as you work so you can easily drop things in as you go. If you can drop off donations when you’re out and about every day, that’s awesome! But if you can’t, at least move the donations out of your living space at the end of every work session.

4. If you miss a day, just move to the next one. The beauty of a varied-task decluttering schedule like this is that you’re making progress without feeling overwhelmed or like you have to catch up.

Week 1: Surfaces and Clutter Magnets

Let’s clear the flat spaces and everyday catch-alls that quietly derail your time management and mental focus.

Day 1: Kitchen Island or Main Counter – Clear the space; only leave true daily-use items

Day 2: Nightstand – Remove cups, random items, and books you’re not reading

Day 3: Bathroom Sink Area – Clear and clean; keep out only the daily essentials in one tray or small bin

Day 4: Dining Table – Remove papers or random items that have collected there over the past few weeks; maybe you could eat dinner there tonight

Day 5: One Storage Bin or Basket – Empty, sort out things to donate/toss, then decide whether or not you actually need the bin or basket (sometimes they just give us permission to keep more than we need)

Day 6: Entryway Drop Zone – Put away what doesn’t belong; perhaps add one small organizer for mail, keys, and sunglasses (IF your stuff always lands there in piles; otherwise, don’t add what you don’t need)

Day 7: Favorite Sitting Spot – Reduce side-table and floor clutter; keep only what you actually reach for all.the.time

Week 2: Simple Clothing and Linen Declutter

Yes, I know… the warm weather may stick around for a while yet. But, you can still lighten some of those drawers and shelves without doing a full change-of-season wardrobe overhaul.

Day 8: Summer Footwear – Keep what you wore this year, let the rest go

Day 9: Pajamas and Loungewear – Ditch stretched-out, scratchy, falling-apart, or ‘why do I still have this’ pieces

Day 10: Summer Tops – If you never reached for it, it’s a donation candidate

Day 11: Pool/Beach Towels – Remove worn-out extras and duplicates; donate ‘good’ extras, turn the truly worn ones into rags

Day 12: Socks and Undergarments – Keep what’s comfortable and in good shape; old socks are great for dusting, but only try this if you know they won’t get mixed back in with your ‘regular’ clothes (otherwise it just adds more work to your life to try keeping track of them)

Day 13: Summer Blankets and Throws – Store or donate extras you never use; at this point in the summer season, you KNOW the difference

Day 14: 10-Minute Clothing Declutter – Work on one drawer in your dresser, or some of your hanging summer clothes that you haven’t already sorted this month; this is a short declutter for a fast, focused win

Week 3: Back-To-Routine Prep

Think of this as easy prep for fall schedules, paperwork, and daily functioning. Let’s take care of these areas for a bump in life motivation and feeling like maybe you’re actually organizing your life… but without a massive ‘change everything’ project.

Day 15: Office and/or School Supplies – Purge broken pens, dried markers, glue, etc.; donate any supplies you probably won’t ever use

Day 16: Purse or Everyday Bag – Dump it out and sort; if you tend to randomly throw everything into your bag, it might be time to try a purse insert to add a bit of organization to the chaos

Day 17: Planner Area or Desktop – Sort and remove stacks of stuff you never look at; make sure there’s space for writing and working

Day 18: Inbox or Command Center – Sort and reset – or create – your paper inbox or command center

Day 19: One Paper Pile – Sort, shred, recycle, file; only work on as much as you can finish in about 10 minutes

Day 20: Lunch Containers and Water Bottles – Match lids and pitch leakers

Day 21: Coffee or Drink-Making Station – Toss flavors or ingredients you don’t really like or use; streamline your setup for faster mornings

Week 4: Calm the Hot Spots

We’re going to finish the month by hopping around to a few different areas, practicing some clutter control in several of those spaces we tend to procrastinate over.

Day 22: One Kitchen Drawer – Your choice… the junk drawer, utensil drawer, etc… whichever is causing you the most hassle right now

Day 23: One Kitchen Cabinet – (The one you’ve been throwing things into and then ignoring) Donate unused gadgets and cookware; organize what’s left

Day 24: Fridge – If you’ve had a busy summer, you may not have been able to keep up with this. Do a quick declutter now; wipe down the interior if you have time

Day 25: Reusable Bags and Totes – Keep a reasonable number, donate the rest; while you’re at it, drop off extra plastic bags for recycling

Day 26: Laundry Area – Put away or toss at least 10 things that don’t belong here

Day 27: Car Interior – Do a quick clear of trash, receipts, and those random items you keep meaning to bring inside

Day 28: Front Porch or Back Patio/Deck – One of these has probably seen heavy use during the summer season; clean it up… toss dead plants, broken items, etc.

Day 29: Kitchen Counter – Work on a different counter area than what you did earlier this month; or, if things got messy again in your main workspace, repeat that one (and brainstorm what you can do to solve this space… clear out a cabinet to hold small appliances, implement a 10-minute tidy every day to clear the space more regularly, or something else? It’s okay to try different options until you find something that works!)

Day 30: Digital Declutter – Take 10 minutes to delete 25 photos from your phone or a bunch of emails for a fast digital clutter win

Day 31: Final 10-Minute Sweep – Declutter any visible surface or random areas that are bugging you
