Do you plan your days? Or are you more of the “fly by the seat of your pants” type? I like to have a simple, basic plan for my day. Otherwise, I pretty much forget everything.

I truly believe that part of Building Your Best Life is having at least a little bit of a plan to help get you through each day. (That’s why my tagline includes the words Plan, Simplify, and Take Action. 😉 ) I just finished creating a printable daily planner sheet that reflects those goals, and I wanted to share it with you!

How to Use the Printable Daily Planner Page

First, decide on ONE focus for the day. (Related post: Stop Thinking and Start Doing) This is THE most important thing you will write on your planner page!

For the Motivational Thought section, you could look up a motivational quote to fit the focus for your day. (Or get one delivered to you daily through this app or by email.) But sometimes I just make something up & write it in there to inspire myself. Don’t ignore the times your motivation comes from within!

Thanks to once a month meal planning, I usually know what we’ll be having for dinner. Breakfast & lunch? Not so much. Still, I put spaces in there because I know others are much better at planning those meals than I am. Or, you could use the blank areas to record what you ate for the day.

I have to track my water intake or I never drink enough! I don’t know about you, but I always feel better when I’m adequately hydrated.

In the Notes section, you can make a list of mini-tasks you would like to accomplish. Or, you can take notes about things as they happen during the day. I like to make a general task list on a 3”x3” sticky note at the beginning of the week and just move it from page to page as the week progresses. Then I use the Notes section for random thoughts.

I’m a time-blocker, and I need a visual representation of that, so I made a Daily Schedule section. You’ll notice the day begins at 4:00 a.m., which is a little ambitious, but honestly there are a lot of days I’m up by 4:30, depending on my husband’s work schedule. Then I’m almost always in bed shortly after 8:00, but I know most people manage to stay up later. I just cannot keep my eyes open longer than that, and I like to give myself 30 minutes to relax in bed and fall asleep.

Thanks to the Make Over Your Evenings course, I am now in the habit of doing my planning at night, which is why you will see the reminder at the bottom of the page to do just that!

Using Adobe Acrobat Reader to Fill Areas of the Planner Page

I prefer to use a pen or sharp pencil to fill out my planner page every day, but I know some people like to fill in the page on the computer. Here is how you can do that with this planner page.

Download the planner page file, which is in PDF format. The planner page cannot be filled from the window that opens when you click on the image, you must actually download the file to work with it.

Open the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. This is a free program that works great on my Windows 10 operating system. The Pro version has many more capabilities, but you also have to pay for it. Unless you compile many documents for business, the standard version will work just fine.

Open the “Tools” section and click to open “Fill & Sign.” Now you can place your cursor anywhere on the planner page and begin typing. There will be a box around your text with letters you can click to make the text larger or smaller to fit either the lines on the planner page or your preference for size.

When you are finished typing and sizing your text, click the X at the far right side of the Fill & Sign bar (this means you are no longer using the Tools). Now you can use the highlighter to highlight your most important text before printing.

When you are finished printing, click File>Revert to take the planner page back to its original blank format. Or, save it to keep it as is for future use.

Printing Your Planner Page

This is a 2-page file that is meant to be printed 2-sided on standard US 8-1/2″x11″ paper. You will notice on page 2, the date section is on the opposite side of the page so you can easily see it when you’re flipping through your pages after they are in a binder. My printer prints on both sides, so all I have to do is select that option in my print screen. If your printer will print on both sides, be sure to select “flip on long edge” for the correct orientation. If you prefer to only print one side, that’s fine too!

Choose “fine” or “quality” printing if you want the page to look best. If you simply want to print a page for fast planning, then save some ink and print on the “normal” setting. Just be aware that it will not look the best. Print in grayscale to save more ink.

I love the salmon color planner page, but sometimes I use the gray version so I will notice colored writing or highlighted markings more easily.

After printing, 3-hole punch your planner sheets to keep them in a binder — or slip the page into a clipboard if that’s an easier daily visual for you.

Consistently using a planner page makes a huge difference in how well I focus and how much I can accomplish each day. I hope this printable daily planner page will help motivate you to organize your day and focus on what is truly important to you!
